All species of sea turtle are of conservation concern

In Queensland, occurs in all coastal waters south the SEQ;
strays reaching sthn NSW. No breeding south of Cape York. Adults omnivorous,
taking mainly sponges but also molluscs, soft corals, sea grasses. Juveniles
carnivorous. Has suffered from hunting
for tortoise shell , causing serious decline worldwide.
