Common – Annual migrant. Short straight blakc bill; dull olive base. Chestnut crown, rish rufous upperparts. Rich ufous chest, dense overlay of black spots, chevrons. Indistinct wing bar. Tail has white inner sides. Black central line from lower back to black terminal tail band. White belly. Olive-yellow legs. Female: Smaller. Non-breeding: Back feathers black centred, buff edges. Dark streaked breast flanks, to undertail sides. Size: 17-22cm. Juvenile: Brighter crown, upperparts. Buff breast. Voice: ‘wit wit wit-it-it’. Habitat: Widespread; coastal, interior wetlands.
