Small fairy wren of tropical
and subtropical grassy habitats. The only Australian fairy wren without
blue in its plumage.
Length 10-13cm. Male black with bright orange to red saddle; wings brown. Female, upperside brown; underside white with ochre wash at rear. Non-breeding male may resemble female, but with few black feathers around head.
