Very large skulking cuckoo of dense understory. Voice includes a deep resonant series of around 25 note – oop oop oop. The only cuckoo in Australia that builds a nest. Mainly in open forest and woodland with understory of long grass or dense vegetation, including around wetlands and in cane fields. Sometimes seen sprawling awkwardly in the sun to dry wings.
