Olive-backed Sunbird

Cinnyris jugularis


The only sunbird in Australia. Occupies forest edges,
secondary growth, mangroves, parks and gardens. When breeding , much displaying
and vocal pursuit in flight. Feeds on nectar and invertebrates gleaned from
crevices and crannies, hovers briefly. Readily forages around man-made
structures. Nest is a distinctive pendulous structure of spider web and fibrous
plant material, often suspended over water but also beneath the overhangs of
buildings.
