Nightjar, Large-tailed

Caprimulgus macrurus


Inhabits the edges of rainforest, monsoon forest, mangroves and Melaleuca. Crepuscular and nocturnal; rests in leaf litter during the day. Hawks insects in clearings. Territorial and resident in a small home range.  Voice is a diagnostic loud monotonous, repeated chrop-chrop-chrop, roughly one loud note per second.
