Kite, Black-shouldered
Elanus axillaris
Small falcon-shaped hawk with striking white, grey and black
plumage. Occurs over all types of open country, especially tall grasslands and
agricultural lands. A partial nomad, its presence and breeding reflecting prey
abundance. Eats small rodents, insects and small lizards.
