Grebe, Australasian
Tachybaptus novaehollandiae
Prefers areas of open
fresh water near tall aquatic vegetation e.g. backwaters of rivers and lagoons,
reed-surrounded dams and urban ponds. Less gregarious than Hoary-headed Grebe,
perhaps because they feed mainly on fish rather than invertebrates.
