The Eastern Reef Egret is a coastal-dwelling bird which comes in two distinct forms – the light morph (white bird) and the dark morph (dark grey bird).
The bird lives on beaches, rocky shores, tidal rivers and inlets, mangroves, and exposed coral reefs where it feeds on small fish, crustaceans and insects.
The bird can be seen around in coastal areas in the Central QLD Coast Landcare Network, but is not as numerous as its cousins, namely the Intermediate and Cattle Egrets.
