Common – Sedentary-Nomadic. Small plover. Flights jerky, reveals white wing bars; alights, runs. Brown upperparts. Sexes alike. Bill bright red, tipped black. Red eye-ring. Face white; black fons and black eye-line. Pale streaked wing coverts; chestnut shoulder patch. Underparts white with broad black chest ‘V’. Size: 16-18cm Juvenile: Plainer. No black ‘V’ on chest. Voice: Metallic ‘pink’; trilling calls. Habitat: Freshwater lake margins, farms dams; rarely tidal areas.
A small bird (17cm), often seen running around feeding frantically on mudflats in wetlands around the region.
