Occurs throughout Australia, mainly in woodlands, also open forestsand shrublands, including partially cleared land, settled areas and leafy suburbs. Solitary except when nesting. Moderatley common but seen infrequently due to unobtrusive foraging behaviour. Mainly hunts small birds by ambush, launching from a concealed percj or using foliage to conceal aerial approach.
