Australasian Darter

Anhinga novaehollandiae


Sometimes known as a shag, this bird is often seen sitting on branches overlooking water with their wings outstretched (drying).

They hunt in the water with their body often submerged with only the head and neck visible. They are fairly common and can often be heard emitting their loud, harsh calls.
