Small tree with stiff leaves. The name derives from the Latin 'rigidus' rigid, referring to the leaves.

Alternate, compound with two to eight (rarely 10) leaflets. Leaflets alternate or opposite, entire, ovate to elliptic with an asymmetrical base, 10-14.5 x 5.5-7.5cm, both surfaces yellow green and glabrous or with sparse hairs on underside. Reticulate venation very conspicuous and rachis tip extends beyond the last leaflet.

Notes: Can produce basal and root suckers after disturbance. Seed are wind dispersed. Grows readily from seed.
