Orange annona

Meiogyne heteropetala, Fam. Annonaceae


Shrub to 4m tall with hairy stems and branchlets forming a zig-zag. Previously Fitzalania heteropetala , which is still in use in Queensland.

Flower description: Flowers about 2cm long, usually pendent, solitary in leaf axils and fragrant. Perianth in three whorls, a smaller greenish whorl of three, three large purple tepals and then three smaller ones.

Fruit description: Indehiscent, orange, ovoid to cylindrical, cigar-like fruit to 2.5cm long, finely hairy, with up to 12 in the one clump.
Habitat: Vine thicket.
